Starting from July, we will initially deploy two electric trucks powered by Einride’s advanced technology between the two Midlands factories, which are home to our core Walkers crisps, Doritos, Wotsits and several other favourite Walkers snacks.
Switching these journeys to electric will help us cut the distance travelled using fossil-powered trucks by over 250,000 miles annually and reduce the equivalent of more than 1,600 tonnes of CO2 emissions over the next three years.
It’s the first phase of a trial to integrate electric-powered vehicles into our transport operations, with the aim to introduce more to the fleet over time.
The move builds on several lower-emission logistics initiatives we announced last year, including switching from diesel to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil to power more than one million miles of truck journeys in the UK each year together with our haulage partner, Pollock (Scotrans) Ltd. This forms part of PepsiCo Positive, our global transformation plan with health and sustainability at the centre, which sets out our ambition of net zero emissions by 2040.
"Our partnership with Einride is a small yet important step towards reducing our emissions footprint, one that will help us drive meaningful progress in finding more sustainable ways to transport our products. These electric trucks have huge potential and we're excited to understand the role they could play in our transport operations going forward.”
