We’ve taken another step forward on our portfolio transformation journey by reformulating household favourite[1] Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli, reducing salt content by 18%[2] while retaining the same great taste Walkers fans love.

This change is the result of seasoning reformulation and product innovation work from our R&D experts at our Beaumont Park site in Leicester. Through clever application of salt particles, ingredient selection and by using the power of aroma to influence how we interpret flavour, our team of flavour experts, have achieved something close to magic to bring Sensations fans the amazing taste they know and love, while reducing salt.

Thai Sweet Chilli is the latest flavour in the Sensations range to be classified as non-HFSS, joining Crushed Sea Salt & Black Peppercorn, Mature Cheddar & Chilli Chutney and Balsamic Vinegar & Caramelised Onion.

“Our experienced R&D experts have reduced Thai Sweet Chilli’s salt content by 18%, whilst also maintaining the delicious sweet and spicy flavour that people love. This change to our most popular flavour means that the majority of our Sensations range is now classified as non-HFSS, answering the growing demand from health-conscious consumers, without any compromise on taste.”

WAYNE NEWTON, SENIOR MARKETING DIRECTOR, WALKERS, PEPSICO UK & IRELAND

Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli’s addition to our non-HFSS portfolio supports our ambition for 50% of Walkers snack sales to come from healthier alternatives by 2025, targeting 30% from products that do not classify as high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) and 20% from snacks sold in portions of 100 Calories or less per packet. Our recent work towards this ambition includes the launch of the “Yummy with” range, as well as reformulations of much-loved snacks such as Sunbites and Quaker Oats.
