This month was the official inauguration of EIT Food, a pan-European partnership aimed at empowering innovators, entrepreneurs and students to accelerate innovation in food.

PepsiCo is a founding partner of EIT Food, a journey that started two years ago when a number of experts and food manufacturers recognised there was more we could do as a collective to futureproof the European food industry.

EIT Food connects partners from leading businesses, universities, research centres and institutes across 13 countries in Europe. Its aim is to develop a highly skilled food sector, collaborating with consumers to provide products, services and new technologies which deliver a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle for all European citizens.

I’m based in our global R&D centre in Leicester, where we develop innovative new snacks and beverages for our consumers in the UK and around the world.

Here we take on a number of placement students from across the UK who help us drive innovation in our global business.

We also collaborate with secondary schools and universities to build a wider understanding of the food industry, encourage more young people into STEM careers, and connect students with opportunities to build a career in food.

This forms part of our work with EIT Food while also building on our ongoing work to attract talent into this vibrant, innovative sector.

Over the next few months there will be collaborations with students across Europe, as well as providing support for food start-ups and young enterprises looking to get a leg-up in the industry.

As one of the largest food-related initiatives worldwide, EIT Food wants Europe to lead a global revolution in food innovation and production. EIT Food's ambition is to redesign the way we produce, deliver, consume and recycle our food and to create a future-proofed and effective food sector which supports a sustainable and circular bio-economy.
